The Halfpipe

My soon to be 13 year old (Mr M) lives his life at the Skate Park, either on his skateboard, scooter or BMX.  So it wasn't a hard decision to make him a Halfpipe for his birthday cake.

Four days earlier, I started a Wilton Cake Decorating class and learnt how to make Buttercream Icing.  So for this cake, I covered layered store bought sponges with grey tinted Buttercream.  Once set enough, I sprayed it with food colouring spray and attempted graffiti with gel icing pens.

Mr M was fairly impressed... and all who have a 13 year old, would know that is not an easy feat!

The Dinosaur...

After the Spongebob cake was so well received, I tried my luck with a dinosaur for Mr C's 8th birthday.  He has been obsessed with dinosaurs since he was born, so it was guaranteed that he would like it.

While it is still a store bought sponge covered in tinted Betty Crocker icing, I advanced myself a little bit more and carved it into the shape of a dinosaur.

Once again, not perfect but Mr C and his little friends liked it... and that's my target audience. So I'm happy! :)

The Beginning... Spongebob Squarepants

This is the start of it all.  A sponge cake, decorated with tinted Betty Crocker icing

I still maintain that this isn't too bad for a first effort! And my son Mr J was more than impressed with it... and that really is all that mattered.

Once the Cake Decorating bug bites though, you keep looking for bigger and better.  Let's hope I get there!

Welcome To Cake My Breath Away!

Welcome to my passion... decorating cakes.  I may not be the best at it, but all my cakes are made with love.

I started decorating just over a year ago, when my son asked me to decorate a Spongebob Squarepants cake.  Looking back at it now, I can see it's imperfections but my son was so proud of it (and me!) that it spurred me to continue.  Since then, I have completed the Wiltons Cake Decorating classes and made cakes for family and friends.

With the encouragement of my family and friends, I have now started my own at home Cake Decorating Business... "Cake My Breath Away".

I hope you enjoy looking at my cakes, almost as much as I enjoy making them!!
